Western Intercollegiate: Oregon Repeats

Oregon, fourth-ranked nationally, became the tournament's first back-to-back team champion in 20 years leading from start to finish with a winning score of 12-under par 1,038

SANTA CRUZ, CA (April 17, 2010)--University of Oregon golfer Eugene Wong shot 67 in the final round of the 64th annual Western Intercollegiate to hold off teammate Jack Paton and win medalist honors while leading the fourth-ranked Ducks to their school-best fourth team title of the season.

Wong, a sophomore from North Vancouver, B.C. who held a two-stroke lead after the first two rounds at the 6,615-yard, par 70 Pasatiempo Golf Club, finished at 8-under 202 (65-70-67), three strokes clear of the charging Paton, who closed with a career-low round of 65.

"Jack was phenomenal," said head coach Casey Martin. "The pins were really difficult today and he put together the best performance of his college career."

As a team, UO shot 4-under 346 on Sunday and completed the event at 12-under 1,038, seven strokes clear of runner-up UCLA (-5, 1,045). UC Irvine (+29, 1,079) was a distant third. Oregon also won the tournament in 2009.
