VIDEO: Joe Miller set to defend World Long Drive title

The former weightlifter's club speed is 150 mph, and his ball speed is an off-the-charts 225 mph

THACKERVILLE, Oklahoma (August 30, 2017) -- Meet Joe Miller. He sounds like a regular guy, right? Not exactly. The Englishman, who started out as a weightlifter, is anything but average. He's the defending World Long Drive champion. Using every bit of his power and flexibility to wind up, Miller brings the club through the ball at 150 mph. (The average Tour player swings 115 mph by comparison.) With a ball speed of 225 mph, the resulting drives routinely stretch out over 400 yards -- last year Miller's winning drive was 423 yards, and during the semifinals he torched one 439 yards, using Callaway equipment. To get your fired up for World Long Drive week, check out the following video from Vice Sports. And be sure to watch The Golf Channel on September 5-6 for live coverage of the spectacle that is "World Long Drive."
