Florida State’s Frederik Kjettrup holds the individual lead at 11-under 133 after rounds of 66 and 67 at Sharks Tooth. He'll take a one-stroke lead into Tuesday's final round over Christo Lamprecht of Georgia Tech, while Vanderbilt's Cole Sherwood and Florida State teammates Brett Roberts and Michael Mays are two off the pace at 9-under.
Lamprecht, a junior from George, South Africa, turned in the low round of the day with a 7-under 65 to move into solo second. Lamprecht had eight birdies and just one bogey on his Monday card to move to 10-under-par for the tournament.
Looming at 7-under is the reigning NCAA men's individual champion, Gordon Sargent of Vanderbilt. After opening with a 71 on Sunday, the sophomore shot 11 spots up the leaderboard into sixth place following a second round 6-under 66.
“It was a really good day today and I’m really proud of how our guys fought,” said Vanderbilt head coach Scott Limbaugh. “We wanted to come out with a sense of urgency about what we were trying to do and I thought the guys did a great job owning that and being ready to go. All of our guys are competing to high standards and looks like they are having fun.”
Vanderbilt will look to lock down its third team title of the season and 10th in the last 12 months tomorrow when the Dores are paired with Georgia Tech and Florida State.
“Our focus tomorrow needs to be on going out and taking another step towards being the team we know we can be,” Limbaugh said. “There are clear standards in our program and it’s everyone’s job to compete to those standards. It’s never easy or comfortable, but you have to embrace it and allow it to motivate you to be the best player you can be."
