Amelia Island, Florida - (August 29, 2006) TUMLIN TOPS QUALIFIERS FOR USGA SENIOR AMATEUR AT AMELIA ISLAND PLANTATION
Ronnie Tumlin, of St. Augustine, fired a 69 on the Long Point Course at Amelia Island Plantation to lead four golfers who qualified for the 2006 USGA Senior Amateur Championship. The Championship, for those age 55 and older, will be played from Sept. 16-21 at Victoria National Golf Club in Newburgh, Ind.
Also qualifying were Leny Ladd, of Palm Coast, James Weeks, of Savannah, Ga., and Gary Verble, from Ponte Vedra Beach, who each shot 73 to prevail in a playoff for the final qualifying spots.
The Senior Amateur is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the United States Golf Association, 10 of which are strictly for amateurs.
