UPDATE: Cal comes back and leads Alister MacKenzie, Crampton posts 63 for Cal

Cal has won the Alister MacKenzie six years in a row and looks to grab seven, but plenty of good players in the field for other teams

The first round of the Alister MacKenzie Invitational started as hosts the University of California looks to win their seventh straight MacKenzie at the par-71, 6,734-yard Meadow Club in Fairfax, Calif. The 16-team field includes Pepperdine, host team California, Arizona State, BYU, Colorado, Fresno State, Hawai’i, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, Oregon State, San Diego, San Diego State, San Francisco, San Jose State and UC Davis. The 54-hole tournament started with 36 holes today. Cal’s Sebastian Crampton had a spectacular first round, carding a 63 with birdies on four of the last six holes. He continued that momentum into his second 18, making birdies on three of the first four holes. Crampton posted a second round 1-under 70 to lead the Bears to a six stroke lead after Day One. Blick shot a first round 64 to tie Pepperdine’s Frederick Wedel, but on a run on the inward nine of his second round he had four birdies in a row and five birdies in seven holes. Blick posted a 65 and leads all individuals with a 129, while Wedel carded a 67 to stand in second place in a tie with the world's second-ranked amateur, Arizona State's John Rahm. Wedel's Pepperdine team is in third (545), one stroke behind San Jose State(544). Rounding out the top five are Arizona State(546), a shot behind Pepperdine, and San Diego State, a stroke behind the Sun Devils at 547. Play resumes with 18 holes tomorrow.
