U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur begins Saturday at The Kahkwa Club

132 golfers will begin the quest for the U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur title at The Kahkwa Club but on Saturday only one will be holding the trophy

ERIE, PA (September 8, 2016) -- Beginning Saturday The Kahkwa Club is set to host the U.S. Women's Mid- Amateur.

The field will include 132 players with the top-64 advancing to match play following two rounds of stroke-play qualifying.

The Kahkwa Club, designed by Donald Ross was opened in 1917 and plays as a 6,125 yard par-72 (36- 36).

In the past The Kahkwa Club has hosted many marquee events including the 1971 U.S. Women's Open and the 2004 U.S. Women’s Amateur.

Defending U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur champion Lauren Greenlief will be headlining the field when play begins on Saturday. Last year Greenlief defeated Margaret Shirley 2&1 in the final to become the youngest champion in tournament history.

“It’s the coolest thing ever," Greenlief told the USGA following her victory. "I think every golfer, especially every amateur golfer, really dreams of being a USGA champion, because it’s really the pinnacle of amateur golf. To get my name etched on the trophy forever is something that I know will be a highlight of my career, now and forever.”

Player Accomplishments
Judith Kyrinis There might not be a player hotter then Kyrinis in the field. Within the last month Kyrinis has won the Senior Women's North & South Amateur and the Canadian Women's Mid- Amateur. In 2014 Kyrinis was the runner-up at the U.S. Senior Women's Amateur.
Martha Leach The 2009 U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur champion is back and looking for her second title. Leach last made it to the Round of 64 in 2014.
Julia Potter Winner of the 2013 U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur, Potter was also the runner- up in 2014.
Margaret Shirley-Starosto One of the top players in the event in recent years Shirley- Starosto won the championship in 2014 while finishing as the runner-up in 2013 and 2015.
Meghan Stasi Nobody has been better in the U.S. Women's Mid- Amateur over the last decade than four-time champion Meghan Stasi. Her titles came in 2006, 2007, 2010 and 2012. In 2014 Stasi also made a run to the semifinals.
