According to Andy Zunz of
Golfweek, Jordan Niebrugge will be the
first player to attempt to win back-to-back
U.S. Amateur Public Links championships since
2009.
Niebrugge, who defeated Michael Kim in last
year's championship match at Laurel Hill Golf
Club last summer, submitted his entry into the
July 14-19 event at Sand Creek Station in
Newton, Kan.
This year's Public Links, of course, is the final
one. Next year, the U.S. Amateur Four-Ball will
take its place on the USGA's national schedule.
Last year's Public Links championship set
Niebrugge on the course for what is one of the
best amateur summers in recent history.
Following his win at Laurel Hill, the Oklahoma
State sophomore went on to win the Wisconsin
State Amateur and prestigous Western
Amateur in successive weeks. The success
landed him a spot on the U.S. Walker Cup
team, which won at the National Golf Links of
America in September.
The USGA victory also earned Niebrugge a
start at The Masters last week.
