Top-seed upset, Eight remain at Pacific Northwest Amateur

Quarterfinal and semifinal matches will be held on Friday at Wine Valley Golf Club

WALLA WALLA, WA (July 21, 2016) -- The storyline of the day was top-seed and medalist winner James Grierson falling in the Round of 16 at the Pacific Northwest Amateur. Grierson had survived his first two matches narrowly before falling on Thursday to No. 16 Andrew Whalen 5&4. Whalen will match up with No. 9 Ryan Wallen in the quarterfinals. Following a 36-hole day on Thursday at Wine Valley Golf Club it will be another long day on Friday with the quarterfinal and semifinal matches scheduled. The 36-hole championship match is slated for Saturday. The lowest seed remaining is No. 2 Carl Yuan, a rising sophomore at Washington. Yuan has had a relatively easy time thus far and he will face No. 26 Aaron Whalen in the quarters. 45-seed Wily Scholten is the highest seed left and he will meet five-seed Pete Griffith in the quarterfinal round. Scholten won a 20 hole match against four-seed Frank Garber to advance to Friday play. The final quarterfinal match features No. 30 Drew McCullough and No. 22 Conner Barr. Play will begin at 7:30 a.m. PST with the semifinals scheduled to follow around noon.
