Thornberry wins Patriot All-America

Playing with a bag honoring Spc. Charles E. Leonard, Thornberry posts 2-under 211 to win the 54-hole event by a single stroke

Ole Miss golfer Braden Thornberry (Olive Branch, Miss.) played the Patriot All-America carrying a golf bag honoring Spc. Charles E. Leonard.

He captured the unique event, honoring fallen and wounded soldiers at Arizona's Wigwam resort today, posting a final round 71 to finish at 2- under 211. Adam Wood, the third round leader from Duke University (final round 73) and David Kocher (final round 69) tied for second at 212.

It was the second round that separated Thornberry, where only two players in the field managed a round of 70 while Thornberry posted a 67, which proved to be low round for the tournament. He birdied five of six holes on the inward nine on Wednesday to put himself in position to end 2015 with a win on Thursday. An even-par final round of 71 at Arizona’s Wigwam Resort gave him a one-stroke win over third round leader Adam Wood of Duke University.
