ALPHARETTA, GA (March 28, 2016)--For the 19th time since The Georgia Cup began in 1998 the reigning U.S. Amateur Champion will take on the reigning British Amateur Champion in the lead up to The Masters. The 18-hole match will be played at The Golf Club of Georgia on the Lakeside Course. This years match will feature Bryson DeChambeau of Modesto, CA against Romain Langasque of France.
Over the years the event has grown from a regional event into one that is recognized around the world. Along with being a world class competition the event is a rare viewing experience for the fans as they can walk the course unhindered by ropes.
Besides being a unique experience for both the players and fans the match benefits the Yates Scholarship and Moncrief Turfgrass Scholarships of the Georgia State Golf Association. The event also benefits the Folds of Honor Foundation.
This year's match seems to have some extra buzz as both players are on the verge of turning pro. Bryson DeChambeau qualified for The Masters by winning the 2015 U.S. Amateur Championship and plans to enter the professional ranks the Monday after The Masters at the RBC Heritage. DeChambeau has been gaining experience traveling the globe and playing in some of the top tournaments in the world. His most notable finishes include a T18 at the Dubai Desert Classic and a T27 recently at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
Romain Langasque has taken a similar track as DeChambeau since winning the 2015 British Amateur Champion. Most notably thus far was his appearance in last years British Open where he finished T65.
Although he is not quite as well known to fans in the states Langasque, has put together an impressive resume of his own. Langasque finished first at the Spanish Amateur--a match play event--T2 at the European Nations Cup and just last week in the Kenya Open the European Challenge Tour season opener he finished second.
