The coronavirus outbreak postpones the Women's Asia-Pacific Am

The tournament was to be played next week at Siam Country Club in Thailand

The R&A today announced that the Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific championship is postponed indefinitely.

Martin Slumbers, Chief Executive of The R&A said,

“With our partners at the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation we have taken the decision to postpone the Women’s Asia-Pacific Amateur championship which was due to be played next week at Siam Country Club in Thailand." The formal announcement also said:

"The decision has been taken amid serious concerns for the safety of players and officials travelling during the current coronavirus outbreak. Our utmost priority is to ensure their safety and the advice we have received in the last 24 hours is that we should not ask them to travel at this time."

While no future date was given at the time of the statement, the R&A indicated a desire to assist players and hold the championship at a later date.

“We will assist all players with their arrangements and hope to reschedule the championship later this year," they said.

This is the third golf tournament canceled or rescheduled because of the coronavirus that has infected tens of thousands and killed well over a thousand worldwide.

The LPGA Tour previously canceled the Blue Bay LPGA scheduled in March in China, while the PGA Tour China Series moved a qualifier from China to Singapore.
