Texas Wins John Burns as Hossler, Hall, Limbhasut, and Skye Inakoshi in medalist tie

University of Texas captures their second consecutive win led by Beau Hossler and Gavin Hall who shared medalist honors

LIHUE, Hawaii (Feb. 19, 2016) -- The Texas Longhorns broke the Cal Berkeley streak of five consecutive wins today at the John Burns Intercollegiate. The Longhorns led at the end of each of the first two rounds after a stellar 12-under opening round followed up by a 4-under 2nd. However, they still found themselves tied with Cal heading into the back nine at the Wailua Golf Course. Texas once again leaned on Beau Hossler, the recent Jones Cup winner, who came up with two clutch birdies on the final two holes for a final round 68 to push Texas to a five stroke victory over Cal. Hossler earned his 2nd win in a row and third this season and shared it with his teammate Gavin Hall along with Cal's K.K. Limbhausut and University of Hawaii's Skye Inakoshi. "For Beau and Gavin to share the individual championship is outstanding," Coach John Fields told Texas Athletics. Limbhausut held a three-shot lead enterting the final round but struggled early with a opening nine 40. He showed resilience, however, making three birdies on the back nine to finish at 1-over for the day and 6-under for the tournament. “It has been an incredible week,” Limbhasut told Cal Men's Golf. “I had a rough stretch of four holes today but overall I played really well. I can’t ask for a better way to start the spring season.” Texas and Cal will meet again starting March 7th at Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters hosted by UNLV.
