Texas shares lead with Augusta State at Insperity Invitational

AUGUSTA, Ga. (Mar. 31, 2012) -- The top-ranked Texas Men’s Golf team carded a two-round total of 17-under-par 559 (282-277) at the Augusta State Invitational on Saturday and share the 36-hole lead with two-time defending national champion and host Augusta State (283-276). The Longhorns are seeking their sixth win of the 2011-12 season and second-consecutive victory after claiming the team title at the Morris Williams Intercollegiate two weeks ago in Austin. Senior Dylan Frittelli finished the day in third place after rounds of 68 and 67. Frittelli notched 13 birdies on the day and was a combined 8-under on the back nine of Forest Hills Golf Club. At 9-under 135, he is just two strokes behind TCU’s Julien Brun (68-65=133) and one stroke back of Augusta State’s Taylor Floyd (67-67=134). Freshman Jordan Spieth opened the tournament with an even-par 72 after balancing five birdies and as many bogeys. In his afternoon round, Spieth shaved four strokes off his score when he sank six subpars and succumbed to just two bogeys. He is currently tied for ninth place at 4-under 140. Junior Julio Vegas (72-70) and senior Alex Moon (70-72) are tied for 20th place at 2-under 142. Sophomore Toni Hakula (73-74) finished the day at 3-over 147 and is tied for 52nd. The Longhorns are set to begin Sunday’s final round in foursomes alongside Augusta State, Illinois and TCU beginning at 8:20 a.m. Central on the first tee.
