Even though it’s a Wednesday, you might call it moving day.
In the senior gross division, the final day will come down to two men – and potentially even more. Steve Humphrey and Steve Comings share the lead with a 223 total for 54 holes, but the leaderboard is tight behind them. They’ll play Thursday’s final round at Willbrook Plantation Golf Club.
The top three places (and ties) in each gross division will play off for the championship title on Friday. Among the handicap flights, the top player (plus ties) will move on to a championship round Friday.
Nicholas Lorenzo, for one, has a plan is to be consistent on the final day. Lorenzo is fourth in his senior men’s flight (ages 50-59) but only four off the pace with a cumulative net score of 220. In his experience, “the guy who is the most consistent is usually in the best scoring position for the final day.”
“The rough is a little tough, I had to play a little conservative because I didn’t want to go into trouble,” Lorenzo said of his day. “I was able to hold on, shot second lowest round of my group today and I’m in third place. I’m quite happy.”
