Steven Fisk Fires 63 to lead Georgia Amateur after First Round

WOODSTOCK, GA (July 12, 2016) -- Steven Fisk of Stockbridge posted an eagle, six birdies and one bogey for a 7-under-par 63 in round one of the Centennial Georgia Amateur Championship. The stroke play portion of this year's state championship is being played at the Crabapple Course of Capital City Club, July 12-13. Fisk takes a two-stroke advantage over Chris Waters of Atlanta and Spencer Ralston of Gainesville, who both finished at 5-under-par 65, into Wednesday's final round of stroke play qualifying. "I played really well," said Fisk. "I got off to a good start and made some birdies; luckily made eagle on 12. I just putted really well." The defending champion, Dru Love of St. Simons Island, turned in a 1-under-par 69 to open the 2016 state championship. Past champions in the field include Robert Mize of Columbus (68), David Denham of Athens (69) and David Noll, Jr., of Dalton (70). Once the low 32 players have been determined after 36 holes of stroke play qualifying, match play will be held at Capital City Club-Brookhaven in Atlanta, July 15-17. The shot of the day came from Jeramy Compton of Suwanee when he scored a hole-in-one on the 152-yard 13th hole with a pitching wedge. Compton finished at 1-over-par 71. Entries for the Centennial Georgia Amateur Championship were open to male amateur golfers who are GSGA members and residents of Georgia. The format is match play preceded by 36 holes of stroke play qualifying.
