ST. AUGUSTINE, Florida — The inaugural St. Augustine Amateur, launched in 2004, was named the Men’s Golf Tournament of the Year by the editors of Golf News.
Fred Seely, Editorial Director of Golf News, wrote: “We’ve always felt the area could support an event that would draw a national field, but until this year, no one stepped up to the table. A group at the St Johns County course did and produced an outstanding tournament that promises to get better.”

Jay Jennison, Tournament Chairman, stated: “I am very gratified that the hard work of the committee, our volunteers, and the staff at the St Johns Golf Club has been recognized by Golf News. We are actively planning for our 2005 event and we expect the tournament to continue to prosper and grow.”
The St Augustine Amateur is designed for better amateur and collegiate players from all over the country. The format is 54 holes, stroke play. The field is limited to 84 players. The winner of last year event and the current champion is Tyler Brown of the University of North Florida with a score of 1 under par 209.
The dates of the next St Augustine Amateur are October 14-16, 2005.
