SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (June 4, 2014) -- Four players, including two from Canada, sit tied for the lead after one round of play at the 99th annual Southwestern Amateur.
At Desert Mountain, David Snyder, Zachary Wright and Canadians Tony Gil and Matt Williams all shot 4-under 66 and share the early lead.
The quartet leads another group of players tied for fifth place. Among those at 3-under is Nevada mid-amateur and senior Brady Exber.
Six more players are tied for eighth place at 2-under while six more sit at 1-under.
All told, there are 14 players within three shots of the lead shared by four. Another six players are just four shots back.
It all makes for what's sure to be a wild final three days at the historic championship.
Other players of note after Round 1 include: Division II star and U.S. Palmer Cup team member Anthony Maccaglia (3-under, T-5), Northern California junior and Georgia Tech golfer Christopher Petefish (E, T-20), Alabama's Tom Lovelady (2-over, T-34) and Cal's Andrew Morgan (5-over, T-74).
