Shawn Lu wins Hawaii Amateur Stroke Play by six

High-school junior Shawn Lu won the Hawaii State Amateur Stroke Play by six shots over defending champion Kyle Suppa

AIEA, Hawaii — High-school junior Shawn Lu of Honolulu ran away with a six-shot win at the Hawaii State Amateur Stroke Play, fending off defending champion Kyle Suppa. Lu's lowest round was a six-under 66 on day two that helped him take over the lead from Nainoa Calip, who opened the tournament at Pearl Country club with a 69. Lu finished out with 68 and 72 over the weekend to claim the title. Suppa, the 2014 winner who made the cut at this year's Sony Open, shot round sod 73-73-71-69 in his attempt at defending. He finished in the runner-up position, a stroke ahead of Justin Williamson in third place. Longtime AmateurGolf.com member Nick Ushijima, who will turn 51 in December, placed 11th at eight-over par 296 in a field of mostly high school and collegiate players.
