View LIVE SCORING as Randy Haag plays Bhavik Patel of Fresno State in the first match, while Jake Johnson of Cameron Park plays Kevin Wentworth of Arnold

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif (June 24, 2011) – Randy Haag defeated medalist and #1 seed Philip Chain and faces 2009 U.S. Amateur semifinalist Bhavik Patel (shown at left), who took out Tain Lee of San Juan Capistrano 4 and 3. Haag’s quarterfinal match was testament to his experience. After getting 2-down to medalist Philip Chian quickly, the veteran recovered with two birdies, including one made after hitting a tree with his tee ball. Haag then proceeded to play virtually mistake-free golf, letting the 20-year-old Chian make two critical errors: a bunkered tee shot on the 15th and a three-putt bogey on 16 that proved the difference in the match. In the other semifinal match, Jake Johnson of Cameron Park defeated Sam Smith of Turlock 4 and 3. The Sacramento State golfer faces the other mid-amateur left in the field, Kevin Wentworth of Arnold, who needed all 18 holes of his quarterfinal to defeat Cory McElyea of Santa Cruz.
