Seminole Intercollegiate: Florida State and Georgia Tech tied at top

The Seminoles and Yellow Jackets lead by three with opening round 6-under-par 278. Kennesaw State's Jeff Karlsson fired a 6-under 65 to lead individual

TALLAHASSEE, Fla (Mar 9, 2012) -- Led by junior Chase Seiffert's 4-under 67, the Florida State men's golf team is tied for first with Georgia Tech after day one of competition at the 2012 Seminole Intercollegiate at Southwood Golf Club on Friday. The Seminoles and Yellow Jackets fired round one scores of 6-under-par 278 to lead the 18-team field, three shots ahead of third-place Mercer (281) and five shots ahead of Kennesaw State (283) and Charlotte (283), who are tied for fourth. "I'm proud of our guys," Florida State head coach Trey Jones said. "Especially, considering our physical condition...we have three guys battling the flu, and two guys just getting over it. They showed a lot of heart and a lot of determination. It means a lot to them to be able to come out and play well in front of their friends and family. It was a great start for us." Kennesaw State's Jeff Karlsson fired a 6-under 65 to sit atop the individual leaderboard after day one. He holds a two-shot lead over Florida State's Seiffert and USF's Trey Valentine (67).
