MARICOPA, Ariz. (Jan. 4, 2015) — Sean Walsh practically went wire-to-wire at the second annual Saguaro Amateur. The Gonzaga junior from Keller, Texas held a share of the first-round lead with Chico State's Alistair Docherty after they both posted 65's, but by Sunday afternoon, Walsh was a five-shot winner.
Walsh finished up the tournament at 15-under par 201, shooting 65-69-67 to win by five over Shotaro Ban and Rico Hoey.
Ban, a junior at Cal-Berkeley, had back-to-back 70's on Friday and Saturday before posting 66 on Sunday to jump into the top-two. Hoey, a sophomore at USC and one of 16 players invited to the recent Walker Cup practice session in Georgia, shot 71-66-69.
Defending champion Taylor Moore, of the University of Arkansas, crept his way toward the top of the leaderboard after a first-round 72 with 68-67 over the weekend to finish in a tie for fourth with David Snyder of Kentucky.
