Scott Harvey upset at US Mid-Am; McCoy highest seed in Round of 16

Glenn Przybylski takes down the defending champ in a 3&1 victory over Harvey

Top seed Scott Harvey had an up-and-down morning at the U.S. Mid-Am at the John’s Island Club in Vero Beach, Fla. His opponent, 32nd-seeded Glenn Przybylski, took an early lead with a first-hole birdie, but Harvey pulled the match to AS by the third hole and a Przybylski bogey on the par-5 4th hole left Harvey with a one shot lead. Another bogey on no. 10 for Przybylski gave Harvey a two-stroke lead, but Przybylski got hot and won five of the last seven holes to go 3-up through 17, giving the Frankfort, Ill. resident an upset win over the defending champion. AmateurGolf.com member Mike McCoy is now the highest seed left in the tournament at #5. Fresh from his Walker Cup experience, the Des Moines resident handled Erik Jarvey of Coast Mesa, Calif. by winning the first hole and never looking back. His day ended after the 16th hole and a 4 & 2 win. McCoy and Sammy Schmitz of Farmington, Minn. are the only top 10 seeds still playing in the round of 16. Schmitz won his match against Joe Alfieri (Lutz, Fla.) by winning the 16th hole to go 1-up, then matched Alfieri’s scores on the final two holes for the win. Round of 16 matches have started. Further updates will be made.
