Scott Harvey takes back South American Amateur lead

The reigning U.S. Mid-Amateur champion took back the lead and will enter Sunday's final round with a one-stroke advantage

LIMA, Peru — With his second consecutive round of 70, reigning U.S. Mid-Amateur champion Scott Harvey, of Greensboro, N.C., separated himself by a stroke heading into the final round at the South American Amateur.

Having been tied after Friday's second round with Brazilian Andre Tourinho at eight-under, Harvey's two-under round on Saturday allowed him to emerge back into the lead, which he held by one after the first round. Tourinho, a former Tulsa University golfer, shot 73 in the third round and now sits three shots back of Harvey.

Two Argentinians are on Harvey's tail at Lima Golf Club in Peru's capital city, with Matias Simaski one back after a second straight 68 while Andres Schonbaum is two behind.

No. 3 ranked amateur in the world, Ashley Chesters of England, continues his climb up the leaderboard after an opening-round 74. Rounds of 68 and 69 since have him five back in a tie for fifth place with Jack Davidson of Wales.

Mike McCoy, after jumping into the top-five on Friday with a 66, shot 76 on Saturday to fall into a tie for 14th.
