CLEVELAND, Ohio (Aug. 27, 2014) — Defending champions Hank Schlissberg and Scott Ross left no doubt in this year's running of the Henry Picard Canterbury Cup. Leading by five heading into the final round, the duo doubled their lead to win the event in back-to-back years.
Last year, the duo combined to shoot rounds of 71-69-149--289 in the unique three day event, where the last round is played in the grueling "count both" two-man format. This year, the pair shot 147 on the final day — four shots lower than anybody else on Wednesday.
The second-place team of Buchholz and Blythe finished at six-over par, 10 shots behind Schlissberg and Ross. Considering big swings are common in an aggregate final round, the defending champions' 10-shot victory is quite stunning.
The Henry Picard Canterbury Cup is a national-level event that draws a field of accomplished amateur players from all over the country. This exclusive scratch tournament features 50 two-man teams in a better ball and aggregate score three-day competition and also offers a Seniors Division for those teams with both partners 50 years of age or over.
