Schenkel Invitational: UAB holds early lead

Alabama-Birmingham shot a 3-under 285 in the first round of the Schenkel Invitational for a one-shot lead at Forest Heights Country Club

By Cassie Stein, Golfweek STATESBORO, Ga. (March 14, 2014) -- Alabama-Birmingham shot a 3-under 285 in the first round of the Schenkel Invitational for a one-shot lead at Forest Heights Country Club. Georgia Southern is in second after a 286. Virginia, Texas, College of Charleston and Mississippi are in a four-way tie for third. Each team shot a 2-over 290, and are five shots back of the Blazers. North Florida’s Taylor Hancock and Kentucky’s David Snyder are tied for the first-round lead. Both shot 4-under 68 on the par-72, 6,947-yard course. Duke’ Motin Yeung, Central Florida’s Greg Eason, Mississippi’s Forest Gamble, Georgia Southern’s Will Evans and Alabama-Birmingham’s Wilson McDonald are tied for third, one shot back.
