Santa Clara leads National Invitational

TUCSON, Ariz. – Santa Clara will take a five-shot lead into the final round at the National Invitational. The Broncos fired rounds of 278 (10-under) and 287 (1-under) led by Hayden Shieh who opened with a sensational 62 and backed it up with an even-par 72. Shieh sits in 2nd place, one shot behind Iowa State's Nick Voke who opened with 68 and then cut down a few unnecessary strokes with a 65 in the second round. New Mexico and Iowa State are both within 10 shots of the lead and look to apply the pressure as Santa Clara and Nevada are each going for their first win of the 2015-16 season. ROUND ONE STORY The National Invitational is taking place this week at The Catalina Course at the Omni Tucson National Resort, host of 30 PGA Tour events. In those 30 events, no one fired a round as good as Hayden Shieh's. The Santa Clara sophomore made eight birdies and an eagle for a course-record 62 to open the tournament with a five-shot individual lead. The record-breaking performance also put his team in a tie for first with University of Nevada after a 10-under 278. Wyoming and host Arizona sit in 3rd and 4th after 6-under and 3-under rounds respectively.
