San Francisco leads after day one of West Coast Conference Championship

SOMIS, Calif. — Senior Jobim Carlos shot 74 on Monday to lead the University of San Francisco Dons to a four-shot, opening-round lead at the West Coast Conference Championship, being held this year at Saticoy Country Club in Somis. The Dons lead San Diego by four and BYU and Pacific by six as the tournament heads to day two, concluding on Wednesday after 54 holes. Junior Sebastian Crookall-Nixon of England shot 75 for USF while sophomore Max Alcorn of Poway, Calif. posted 76. The leading player Carlos, of the Philippines, is tied for second individually behind Connor Campbell of Loyola Marymount. His 71 leads by four. The most notable player in the field has to be Pacific senior Byron Meth, who just returned from Augusta National. Having won the 2014 U.S. Amateur Public Links title, Meth received an invitation to the 2015 Masters, and finished second best among amateurs with a 36-hole total of 150, one shot back of U.S. Amateur runner-up Corey Conners. Meth posted 74 on Monday at Saticoy, and is among three players tied for second at two-over while his Tigers are six back in a tie for third with BYU.
