San Francisco City: Connolly to meet Sheikh in Sunday final

Daniel Connolly defeated Ben Peters, 2-up and Noah Sheikh defeated Marcus Potter, 3&2 as both players advanced to the Sunday final

SAN FRANCISCO, California (March 12, 2016) -- Today in San Francisco City Championship semifinal play at Harding Park Golf Course, Daniel Connolly defeated Ben Peters, 2-up and Noah Sheikh defeated Marcus Potter, 3&2. Connolly is a high school senior at Stuart Hall High School in San Francisco and will be an SMU mustang in the fall. He has twice qualified for the U.S. Junior Amateur including a round of 32 appearance in 2013 at Martis Camp. Later that year he would go on to win the amateurgolf.com Christmas Classic with a final-round 64. The very Irish Connolly (check his belt buckle for the shamrock) will hope that the upcoming St. Patrick's Day holiday will give him inspiration to get over the final hurdle. Sheikh, a resident of Woodland, Calif., will be no pushover. The former University of Oregon golfer has plenty of experience playing in wet and rainy conditions, as are expected for the final match. His road to the finals has included several tough matches. As a matter of fact, he wouldn't be in this final at all had he not gotten past a tough first round opponent, Grady Smith. That match went 21 holes. The 36-hole final match begins at 7:30 am local time at TPC Harding Park.
