Sammy Schmitz and Marc Dull finalists at US Mid-Am

Yet another match is determined at the 17th hole, while the other match was never in doubt; Schmitz and Dull to do battle on Thursday

Sammy Schmitz outlasted Brad Wilder in the semifinal round of the US Mid-Am at the John’s Island Club in Vero Beach, Fla, in a match that remained close throughout the afternoon. It was all-square when they approached the tee box on the par-5, 494-yard 17th hole. The 17th has been a pivotal hole throughout the tournament, with some reaping huge rewards despite the risks. Wilder birdied, but an eagle 3 by Schmitz proved to be the winner as both golfers posted par on 18, and Schmitz walked away with a 1-up win. Marc Dull had an easier time of it, taking his second 1-up lead of the match on the 6th hole and maintaining a lead throughout against David Bolen. After 11, Dull had increased his lead to 4-up, which he carried to the 15th final hole. The match ended after 15 in a 4 & 3 victory for Dull. The finalists will tee off at 7:30 am EDT on Thursday. More to come from the USGA.
