Sakurai rallies to win the Japan Amateur

After being down for 25 holes, Katsuyuki Sakurai rallies to win the prestigious Japan Amateur

MIYOSHI, AICHI, JAPAN (July 9, 2011) --Katsuyuki Sakurai spent the lion’s share of the final 36-hole match at the 2011 Japan Amateur down to Yoshinori Fujimoto. But after four consecutive wins starting on the 24th hole at Miyoshi Country Club in Aichi prefecture, Sakurai found himself one up, finally. He would hold that one up lead for five holes until Fujimoto carded a win on the par-5 33rd hole (No. 15 on the card). Sakurai, however, would not be dismayed. A win on the par-3 16th would place him one up again and he would half the next two to claim the most prestigious amateur title in Japan.
