Ryan Tombs earns New Hampshire Medalist Honors

Match Play begins on Wednesday at Laconia Country Club with 64 players surviving qualifying

LACONIA, NH (July 12, 2016) -- Bryant senior Ryan Tombs ran away and hid on Tuesday as he earned medalist honors at the New Hampshire Amateur. Tombs erupted on the final day of qualifying at Laconia Country Club as he fired a 7-under 65 to finish 9-under. Tombs began the day on the 10th hole and started slowly with a bogey on No. 11, his only blemish of the day. On the ensuing hole, Tombs a first team All-NEC performer this past year, tallied his first birdie of the day. That bird was the first of four in a row and six in seven holes and as Tombs moved to the front nine he was already 5-under for the day. With the front nine still to come, Tombs carded two more birdies on holes 3 and 6 to reach 9-under. Jim Cilley finished second with a 36-hole 3-under total. James McKee at 2-under was third while three other players were 1-under and in fourth. Defending champion Connor Greenleaf advanced to match play as well after finishing even-par and in a share of seventh place. In all 64 players will advance to match play which begins on Wednesday.
