Ramachandran wins rain-shortened Magnolia Amateur

Seton Hall senior wins title by one stroke over Auburn's Austin Coggin

It was a pair of 4-under-par 67s that gave Seton Hall senior Deven Ramachandran the victory in the weather-shortened Magnolia Amateur, held at Mississippi’s Hattiesburg Country Club over the weekend.

He finished one stroke better than Auburn’s Austin Coggin (-7) in second place, and two strokes clear of LSU’s Drew Doyle and Ole Miss’ Kye Meeks (-6), who finished in a tie for third place. Rainy conditions shortened the event from its traditional 54-hole format to just a 36-hole event.

Ramachandran (San Rafael, Calif.) followed his first-round scorecard that featured four birdies and an eagle with a second round that saw the Pirate senior card eight birdies, including three in his final five holes, for his second straight round of 67. Coggin, a rising junior at Auburn, also fired a second round 67, while Doyle and Meeks both followed their first round 70 with a second round 66, tied for low round of the second day.

The final round was supposed to begin on Sunday at 8:00am, but weather did not allow for all remaining competitors to finish, resulting in the final round being completely washed, giving Ramachandran the victory.

With a two-round total of 144 (+2), Argentina’s Miguel Sancholuz claimed top Mid-Amateur honors, while Meeks’ 6-under gave Ole Miss the “team” award for the school with the two lowest-finishing players. While Ole Miss was tied with South Alabama and UTSA, Meeks score through two rounds gave the Rebels the title.
