Rain halts Eastern Amateur heading to Sunday

PORTSMOUTH, Va. — Stormy weather suspended play at the 59th Eastern Amateur at 1:09 p.m. EDT, and that was the last golf played on Saturday during the tournament's third round. The event, typically 72 holes, has been shortened to just 54 holes according to the Eastern Amateur's Twitter account. Players will resume their positions from the third round, completing that score and concluding the 2015 tournament. Georgia Tech sophomore James Clark led by two shots after the first two rounds, as was not yet done with his front nine on Saturday before the horns blew. The second round saw higher scores than the first day, with steady winds and thick rough to blame. Clark, however, found the conditions very manageable. The Columbus, Ga. native posted a bogey-free 64 (6-under) that included four birdies on the front nine (his final nine). Clark hasn’t made a bogey thus far and sits at 8-under total, two shots clear of second place. First-round leader Colton Yates started off two-under par through his first nine holes (back nine) but an errant tee shot and a penalty stroke on the ninth green led to a 2-over back nine and a round of even-par 70 on Friday.
