Prestige at PGA WEST: Sun Devils win third straight event

Arizona State withstood a furious comeback attempt from defending champion Stanford to win their third event in a row

LA QUINTA, Calif. — Make it three in a row for the red-hot Arizona State Sun Devils men's golf team. Having already won the Arizona Intercollegiate and the Amer Ari Invitational this spring, the Sun Devils went 31-under over three rounds at PGA WEST, and withstood a furious comeback attempt from the defending champion Stanford Cardinal. Led by individual champion Maverick McNealy, Stanford shot an incredible 20-under on day three, with McNealy firing the low round of the tournament — a 64 — on Wednesday. They also received a 66 from Viraat Badhwar and a 67 from David Boote. Still, Stanford fell four shots short of Arizona State, who were led by Jon Rahm (66-70-69) and Max Rottluff (70-66-70). Rahm finished in second place, four back of McNealy, while Rottluff tied for fourth. San Diego State's Xander Schauffele tied for second with Rahm, thanks to his 68 and 67 in the final two rounds. The Aztecs took third place, four behind second-place Stanford. Also tying for fourth were Myles Lewis of Louisiana State, who tied for fourth with Oklahome State in the team race, and Sean Crocker of USC.
