SAN FRANCISCO, CA (March 3, 2018) - Travis Peterson of Santa Rosa has taken the lead after the first round of qualifying for the San Francisco City Championship, shooting a 4-under 68 at TPC Harding Park.
On a day of difficult scoring--Peterson's round was the only under-par round of the 134 players on Saturday--the 29-year-old put together a five-birdie round and got it to five under before his lone bogey at the short par-4 16th. Peterson birdied holes 5, 11, 12 14 and 15.
Peterson made the final 32 in last year's City Championship and looks to have the form to go deeper in the tournament this year.
Four players--Ahmed Ali, Brendan Hy, Jack Snow, and Jordan Erlewine--shot even-par 72 at TPC Harding Park and are all tied for second, four shots behind Peterson.
Hy was a quarterfinalist last year, while Ali made the final 16.
Half of the field played TPC Harding Park, while the other half played the par-68 Lincoln Park. The field will switch courses tomorrow, with the low scorers advancing into the match play round, with 64 players starting match play next weekend.
At Lincoln Park, no one was able to match par on Saturday. Three players shot 1-over 69: Dan Young, Garrett Wagner and Lucas Carper.
Matthew Seramin, who shot a 1-under 67 in yesterday's pre-qualifier at Lincoln Park, continued his good play with a 70 at Lincoln Park that puts him in a tie for 11th.
The defending champion Brian Ma shot a 5-over 77 at TPC Harding Park and is safely inside the top 64 at T42.
