Peterson, Carper Co-Medalists in SF City Qualifying

Travis Peterson and Lucas Carper are the only players in the 134-player field to break par at TPC Harding Park and Lincoln Park

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (March 4, 2018) - Travis Peterson and Lucas Carper (San Jose, CA) were the co-medalists in San Francisco City Amateur qualifying, each completing 36 holes in 2-under 138 at TPC Harding Park and Lincoln Park. Peterson, a 29-year-old from Santa Rosa, held the lead after a 4-under 68 Saturday at TPC Harding Park, and like many others, found Lincoln Park a little tougher to score on. Peterson shot a solid 2-over 70 at Lincoln Park on Sunday. Related: Peterson Leads San Francisco City Qualifiers Carper, a 16-year-old high school junior from San Jose, started the day 1 over after an opening 69 at Lincoln Park, then started his second round at TPC Harding Park with bogeys on the first two holes. But he was flawless from there, with birdies on 6, 10, 12, 17 and 18 for a 3-under 69. Jason Anthony of Fairfield, a quarterfinalist in last year's championship, shot the low round at Lincoln Park, a 2-under 67, to qualify third at 1-over 141. Ahmed Ali, Garrett Wagner and Brendan Hy finished tied for fourth at 2-over 142. Hy was a quarterfinalist last year, while Ali made the final 16. J.R. Garfield of Santa Clara shot the low round of the day at TPC Harding Park, making five birdies in a 4-under 68 that put him at 148 and on to match play. The defending champion Brian Ma of Milpitas shot rounds of 77 at TPC Harding Park and 71 at Lincoln Park to safely advance to match play. Ned Jensen of San Francisco, a semifinalist last year, shot a 1-under 71 for a 7-over 147 total. The low 64 players from qualifying advance to match play, and the cut fell at 14-over 154. Eight players were on that number and had to play off for the final two match play spots, starting on the 18th at TPC Harding Park. In the playoff, Jack Steck and Beau Scroggins were able to make par and take the final two match play spots. The tournament continues next weekend, with three rounds of match play scheduled, which will pare the field down to the final 16.
