Parziale upset in match play at U.S. Mid-Am

Co-medalist Matt Parziale ran into a buzzsaw named Justin Young in his first round of match play

VERO BEACH, FL (Oct. 5, 2015) -- After earning co-medalist honors with Scott Harvey, Matt Parziale entered match play going against 63rd-seed Justin Young of Roanoke, Va. Both Young and Parziale carded five birdies on the day, but it was Young who took advantage of the scoring opportunities when he had them to upend the #2 seed in 19 holes. Young took the lead on No. 1 with a par as Parziale faltered with a bogey. Young never trailed in the match after that, although a bogey on 18 brought the match back to All Square. Young put the match away with a win on the 19th hole. Meanwhile, the other co-medalist had a fight of his own. Top seed Scott Harvey faced #64 Nathan Smith, who took a lead on the second hole and held it for most of the match. After Harvey squared the match on no.12, Smith took the lead back with a birdie on 15. A birdie by Harvey on 18 brought the match back to square, but Harvey took the first extra hole to advance. More from the USGA coming soon.
