Pacific Invitational: Denver leads field by one entering final round

men's golf team went six-under at Stockton Golf & Country Club on Halloween to overtake Washington State

STOCKTON, Calif. (Oct. 31, 2014) — The University of Denver, lead by Norwegian sophomore Petter Mikalsen and his second-round 66, overtook Washington State University on Friday for the lead at the VisitStockton Pacific Invitational. The Pioneers trailed the Cougars by 10 shots entering day two but rallied with two sub-70 rounds to edge into the lead with 18 holes remaining. Mikalsen lead the way with a five-under 66 after an even-par 71 on Thursday. He leads individually by one over six other players tied at four-under. Freshman Chris Korte posted 70-69 through two days while Massachsetts native and sophomore Pat Frodigh is in at even-par 142. Tied for second place in the team department are Washington State along with Grand Canyon University. Fourth place is held by the University of Nevada-Reno while the host team, the University of the Pacific, trails Denver by eight and is tied for seventh along with Sacramento State.
