O'Toole closes with 66 to win Magnolia Amateur

Casey O'Toole birdied two of the first three holes and posted a final round 66 to take the Magnolia Amateur in Hattiesburg, Mississippi

HATTIESBURG, MS (July 14, 2013) — One of the secrets to championship golf is to seize the moment when the opportunity arises. Casey O’Toole did that right from the very start Sunday in the final round of the Magnolia Amateur. Starting the day tied for the lead, O’Toole calmly sank an eight-foot birdie putt on the first hole of the round, setting himself on the way to the tournament championship in the second annual event at Hattiesburg Country Club. O’Toole, a senior at Samford University from Oneonta, Ala., shot a 5-under par 66 for the day and finished with a three-day total of 7-under 206 to win by three shots over Southern Miss sophomore Kevin Jorden. “It was just the putter,” said O’Toole. “I’d be lying if I said I hit it good. But put a wedge in my hands and I’d get it close, and I just made putts. With these pins you have to be able to come in with a wedge and lay up. “I just stuck to my plan, which was to not play too aggressively, and, fortunately I was able to make some putts.”
