Orlando International Amateur: Josiah Gilbert takes commanding 36-hole lead

The Las Colinas course played more difficult than the El Campeon Course for the field

Josiah Gilbert of Auburn shot a second-round 3-under 68 to get to 7-under and take a four-shot lead into the final round of the Orlando International Amateur at Mission Inn Resort, Las Colinas Course in Howey In The Hills, Fla.

The first round was played at the El Campeon Course, while the second round was played at the Las Colinas course.

Gilbert was even through his first nine holes, recording two birdies and two bogeys, but an eagle on No. 13 and a birdie on No. 17 and no bogeys on the outward nine got him to 3-under on the day.

Jimmy Dales recorded the round of the day, finishing 4-under 67 to propel into a tie for second place at 3-under after an opening round of 1-over 73. Will Morlan and Carson Baez are also T2 at 3-under.

It was a struggle for the round one leaders, as Michael Mays shot a second-round 7-over 78, and Carson Baez shot a 2-over 73. Mays started his round bogey-double bogey-bogey to fall out of the top five through just four holes.

The Orlando International Amateur Championship is an annual golf tournament gathering high-level amateur golfers from the United States of America and abroad. It is a 54-hole stroke play championship played over three rounds.
