Two-time defending champions Sharon Hadley of Springfield, Ore. (Springfield CC) and Mary Budke of Eugene, Ore. (Shadow Hills CC) narrowly defeated the Portland State University duo of Sarah Tiller and Ashley Anast by just one stroke with a 2-under par total of 72-70-142 to three-peat as champions in the Gross Division of the 2005 Women's Best Ball Championship at Lewis River Golf Course.
"It never gets old" commented Hadley on the win. Hadley, a scratch golfer, rarely gets the opportunity to play golf, let alone compete. As owner of Focus 4 CPA a business consulting firm in Springfield, she doesn't have the flexibility to take too much time away from her responsibilities of running a business. "This event is so much fun and I look forward to try again next year," she added.
Hadley does plan on increasing her competitive play this year at the OGA Mid-Amateur Championship, October 8-9 at Bandon Trails, the latest addition to Bandon Dunes Resort.
Net Division champions are Darlene Moen of Vancouver, Wash. with a 7.0 index and Pat Emrich of Washougal, Wash. (Orchard Hills CC) with a 7.9 index finished the two day tournament at 14-under 64-66--130. Maria Gander of Tigard, a 23.7 index and Janet DeMorgan, an 18.6 index at RedTail GC were 4-strokes off the pace with a 66-68-134 net total.
The purpose of Net competition is to level the playing field so that all players can have the opportunity to win. Handicap Indexes at this event range from a low of +2.0 where the player actually adds strokes to their score to a high of 32.0 for the player to subtract strokes from their gross score. USGA Handicap Indexes are just one of the services provided to members of all OGA member clubs.
