PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. (Feb. 14, 2016) -- The Northern Trust Open Collegiate Showcase is back for another year, and this time it will feature the world's top-ranked golfer.
Jordan Spieth will team up with Texas junior Beau Hossler in the Feb. 15 event at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif., that will pair 14 college golfers with PGA Tour pros who are alums from their respective schools. The teams will also include two amateur boosters each.
The pro and two boosters will compete in a best-ball format for the Collegiate Showcase title and a $50,000 donation to their school's golf program. The college players will play their own ball, with the medalist earning a spot in the Northern Trust Open, to be played Feb. 18-21.
Wake Forest sophomore Will Zalatoris won the inaugural event a year ago with a score of 4-under 67 before shooting 76-71 to miss the cut in his first Tour start. He is back to defend his title.
“I’m flat out excited to be back,” Zalatoris said. “It is one of my favorite days all year. ... Whoever goes the lowest that Monday will play one of the best golf courses in the world with some of the best players in the world. It was a wonderful opportunity on many levels last year, and I'll be playing to do it again."
