Northern Amateur: Perry takes lead

Jack Perry of Santa Barbara, Calif. fired a first-round 3-under 69 to take the early lead at the Northern Amateu

CHESTERTON, Ind. (July 24, 2013) -- Jack Perry of Santa Barbara, Calif. fired a first-round 3-under 69 to take the early lead at the Northern Amateur. At Sand Creek Country Club, Perry leads Max Kollin by a shot. Kollin, starting on No. 10, went 2-under for an opening-round 70. Otto Black and Thomas Shindler are tied for third place at 1-under while Thomas Dunne, Juan Pablo Hernandez and Mitchell Rutledge are tied for fifth. The Northern Amateur is a popular national amateur tournament played from 1967-2001 with a solid list of past champions. It returned to the schedule in 2011 and is a 54-hole stroke-play championship with a field of 96 players.
