North and South Amateur: Constable defeats Simson

Donald Constable defeats the worlds number 1 ranked senior amateur, Paul Simson in very tight match

PINEHURST, NC (June 30, 2011) – Defending champion Donald Constable defeated the worlds number 1 ranked senior amateur, Paul Simson in very tight match that never went more than one up for either player. Simson, from Raleigh, NC, kept the match square or in his favor for the first eight holes then he stumbled with a bogey on the 180-yard par-3 ninth hole. Constable, from Minnetonka, MN, birdied the 610-yard par-5 tenth to go one up and held the match at that pace for most of the back-nine . Simson needed birdie on the historic 18th hole to extend the match and that is exactly what he got. A loss on the 19th hole would give the match to Constable, a man nearly 40 years his junior. Constable will take on Indiana University senior David Erdy in the quarter-finals.
