New England Amateur: John Gratton takes lead

WINCHESTER, Mass. (July 22, 2014) -- John Gratton shot 5-under 66 and holds the first-round lead at the 85th playing of the New England Amateur Championship. At Winchester Country Club, Gratton grabbed a one-shot lead over New Hampshire's Nicholas Pandelena, who plays at Boston College. Rhode Island's Bobby Leopold, who recently won his state amateur, leads a group of four players tied for third place. Leopold, Steve Dilisio, Benjamin Day and Patrick Albanesi all shot 3-under 68 and are tied heading into Wednesday's second round. Defending champion Evan Russell of the University of Hartford shot 3-over 74 in Round 1 and is tied for 55th.
