NCAA Southeast: Alabama keeps rolling

By Cassie Stein, Golfweek Arguably the hottest team all spring continues to impress. Alabama won the Baton Rouge Regional to win its fifth tournament in a row and sixth out of its last seven. It’s the team’s seventh victory of the season. The Crimson Tide's low score of the day and of the tournament on Saturday, 6-under 282, was good for a six-shot victory over first- and second-round leader Florida. “We were only eight shots back (heading into the final round), and we knew it was doable,” said sophomore Justin Thomas. “With Bobby (Wyatt) shooting low and Scott (Strohmeyer) shooting a 69, we played solid.” Alabama’s Scott Strohmeyer won the individual title by two shots over teammate Bobby Wyatt. Strohmeyer posted a 3-under 69 in the final round to pick up his first collegiate victory. Wyatt, a junior, shot the low score of the tournament with a 6-under 66. In the team’s last seven tournaments, a Crimson Tide player won the individual title five times. For the rest of the Tide: Thomas finished in a tie for sixth at 2-over 218. Cory Whitsett finished T-30 at 11-over 227 and Trey Mullinax was 13 over (T-37). “We’re really excited for NCAAs,” Thomas said. “It’s a pretty sweet course (Capital City Club) and we liked it a lot, so we’re looking forward to getting there.”
