NC Amateur: McGowan holds lead after Day 1

WINSTON-SALEM, NC (June 14, 2013) -- Partial first round results of the 53rd North Carolina Amateur Championship of the Carolinas Golf Association hosted by Forsyth Country Club in Winston-Salem, NC. Thursday play was suspended at 3:40 p.m. due to the line of severe thunderstorms that roared through North Carolina on Thursday afternoon with 50+ MPH winds, heavy rain and severe lightning. Due to the great work of the Forsyth CC maintenance staff, the golf course was ready for play at 7:10pm when play was resumed. Current clubhouse leader is Michael McGowan of Southern Pines, NC. He carded a five-under 66 and holds a one stroke lead. After 36 holes the field of 143 players will be cut to the low 60 scores and ties for the final two rounds.
