Moot Thomas Invite: Ken Palladino edges 4 players by 1 shot

By the Marion County Golf Association OCALA, Fla. (March 2, 2019) - One wire-to-wire winner and three come-from-behind winners highlighted the final round of the 12th Annual Moot Thomas Invitational. The wire-to-wire winner was Bobby Lundquist in the Super Senior Division. The come-from-behind winners were Ken Palladino (Senior Division), Jim Carley (Legends Division) and Jim Progner (Super Legend Division). Palladino started out the final round at Ocala Golf Club trailing first round leader Brian Brown by one shot. Palladino closed the tourney with a 73 which gave the Tampa resident a 4-under-par 212 total. The 212 score edged a quartet of golfers by a single shot. Finishing in a tie for second place with 213 totals were: Doug Harris (Franklin, TN), Brown (Inverness), Jerry Slagle (Southlake, TX) and Kelly Gosse (Crystal River). Lundquist went wire-to-wire to win the SS Division. The Sanford resident was one of only two golfers who shot all three rounds under par in the tournament. Lundquist put up scores of 71-70-69 for a 6-under-par 210. Finishing second was Bill Zylstra (Ocklawaha) with a 217 total. In third place was John Armstrong (Frostburg, MD) with a 218. Fourth place went to Shawn McLoughoin (Newtown, CT) with 220. Tied for fifth were Alan Deichler (Gainesville) and James Castagna (Sandy Spring, MD). Ormond Beach’s Jim Carley came from behind to edge Tom Grady by a single shot to win the Legend Division. Carley’s closed with a 4-under-par 68 which gave him a 10-under-par 206 and a one-shot win over Grady (Lakewood Ranch). Carley also shot under par for all three rounds (69-69-68 – 206). Finishing third was Mike Jackson (Martinez, GA) with a 4-under-par 213. In fourth place was Dick McDonough at 3-under-par 213. In a tie for fifth were John Cuomo (Venice) and Berger Warner with 2-under-par 214 scores. Jim Progner birdied the last hole to break a tie with Legend leader Charlie Busbee. Progner (Sarasota) shot a 222 total on rounds of 78-70-74 to overtake Busbee (Stockbridge, GA) who finished at 223. In third place was Ron Russo with 228. Fourth Place went to Yancey Ford (Charlottesville, VA) with 231. In a tie for fifth were Dave King (Potomac Falls, VA) and Joe Eubank (Winter Park) with 232s. OUT OF THE ROUGH -There were players representing 16 states and Canada in the field of this National Senior event.
