Joey Johnson earns 2&1 victory to keep repeat title hopes alive

(June 25, 2014) -- Defending champion and stroke play medalist Joey Johnson of Missouri State won his match on Thursday in the round of 64 at the Missouri Amateur Championship. Johnson defeated 64th-seed Justin Mitchell 2&1 at Norwood Hills Country Club, as he made three birdies and only lost one hole on the day. Johnson next faces 33-seed Teddy Jones in the round of 32. Mid-amateur and second-seeded Skip Berkmeyer also won today, downing Blake Windsor 4&3 to set up a showdown against 31-seed Phil Caravia on Friday morning.
