All kidding aside, Woulfe, a living legend of Florida amateur golf and lifetime member of AmateuGolf.com, hardly shot himself in the foot on Saturday, posting 1- over 73 to stand at 5-under and one shot back of new leader Michael Mercier. He will of course, be playing in the final group on Sunday.
And let's give Mercier some credit for going out and taking things into his own hands. The June Beach, Florida resident's 4-under 68 is one of the best in the tournament and by far the best on Sunday, when no other player broke 70. (5 players shot under 70 on Friday.) If Mercier can shave two strokes off of that as he did off his first round 70, he's going to be tough to beat on Sunday. Earlier this year, he tackled challenging conditions in finishing third at the British Senior Amateur.
Rounding out the final group at Heron Bay
on
Sunday is defending champ Doug Hanzel, the
2013
U.S. Senior champion who stands at 3-under
after an
even-par 72 on Saturday.
SUPER
SENIOR
Stepen Rose and Craig Scott
are
tied for the Super-Senior lead at one-under 143
while
John Baldwin is three back.
